On Eurodam, Nieuw Amsterdam, Noordam, Westerdam, Oosterdam, Prinsendam, Zuiderdam: Every single Stateroom has a cooler (HAL does not like to use the word refrigerator as they don't get as cool as some medicines that require "refrigeration" need... but they will get beverages cold...)
[
On the rest of the HAL fleet (and note the above says NIEUW AMSTERDAM... NOT  Amsterdam ) If it has a verandah, it has a cooler!

IRL_Joanie's Notes
[
The Vista Class J & K Staterooms found on MAIN DECK are "Larger" inside cabins, being about 200 - 210 square feet in size, depending upon if they're handicapped accessible and/or connecting with other cabins. These Main Deck inside J's and K's are larger than the upper deck J's and K's by as many as 60 square feet (depending upon which J's and K's you're talking about). Many of the more experienced HAL cruisers tend to avoid any upper deck J or K in the forward section of the ship, while they might accept an upper deck stern J or K if there was no other alternative (i.e., if the obstructed outside cabins are taken). Those upper deck stern J's and K's will not have a couch, but will have two chairs. Some say they would never book anything bellow a J or a K on a Vista, and would not accept an inside cabin running length-wise with the ship.
[
The only inside cabins larger than the J's on Main Deck (and, indeed, the largest inside cabins in the fleet) are the "I" category cabins up on Navigation Deck 8: "I 8037" (which is handicapped accessible), "I 8041", "I 8045", and "I 8049. These four "I" category cabins are larger than the Js bellow them on Rotterdam Deck 7, and larger even than the five I category cabins amidships on Upper Verandah Deck 6. These Deck 8 "I" category cabins are only slightly narrower than the SS category cabins across the hall, and only a little shorter (not counting the SS's Verandah, of course). "I 8049" is the queen of all of the inside cabins, being a luxurious 233 square feet, which means that it is larger than ANY non verandah ocean view stateroom (which max out at 180 square feet). These Is are not quite as square as the J's and Ks on Main deck, but they're just as wide and a little deeper (i.e., more rectangular). Reports are that, "it feels larger than even a V cabin on the Vistas, which might be due to configuration but may also be a reality given that the smallest V's are 212 square feet, and that includes the verandah!"
[
If you can get a J or a K on Main Deck you can't go wrong. These are wonderful cabins in an excellent location and on the Vista ships, if you can get a K on deck 6 astern or a J on deck 7 astern, you'll find that they're small but acceptable (again, they won't have a couch but they will have two chairs). If you can't get one of those, and if you can't get an I on Deck 8, then go with an outside obstructed view cabin on Deck 4 (G or H). These are nice cabins, and even though they're smaller than the J's on Main Deck their configuration makes them feel comfortably sized. Indeed, other than lacking a verandah they're the same size as the inside portion of the V cabins on that deck (other than those facing astern).
[
Usually, the price differential between the inside Js and Ks and the outside H's and G's is only a few dollars -- so, if you find yourself stuck with only Ks in the forward section or even lower category cabins running length-wise with the ship, Spend the extra few bucks and go to an outside obstructed/partly obstructed view stateroom. You will hopefully not be disappointed.
[
The standard Verandah/Balcony is 6 ft. deep by 9 ft. wide. VA aft/stern Verandah/Balconys are deeper (how much depends on which deck, and Vista class (Noordam, Oosterdam, Westerdam & Zuiderdam) versus Signature class (Eurodam & Nieuw Amsterdam). VD are 7.5 ft. deep. VF and VE on Vista Class ships, Noordam, Oosterdam, Westerdam and Zuiderdam, Verandah deck are only 4.5 ft. deep.
[
These sizes are most likely the same on all 4 Vista Class ships, Noordam, Oosterdam, Westerdam & Zuiderdam, though there may be slight differences in the sizes.
[
As of this time I do not have information on the Verandah/Balcony sizes of the SS category Staterooms.
[
SA & SB Stateroom Sizes NOT INCLUDING Verandah/Balcony:

These sizes are most likely the same on all 4 Vista Class ships, Noordam, Oosterdam, Westerdam & Zuiderdam, though there may be slight differences in the sizes.
[
The stern Verandah/Balconys on the Noordam are different from the other three Vistas. Deck 4 verandah/balconys are larger and more exposed, and the Deck 5 ones are completely covered. The Oosterdam and Westerdam are like this. The Noordam stern is evenly sloped, so that Deck 4 is not larger nor is Deck 5 covered any more than Deck  4, Deck 6, or Deck 7. Deck 8 has a lot of coverage on all four ships, but probably a little more so on the Noordam.
[
These sizes are NOT INCLUDING the Verandah/Balconys, just the Interior of the staterooms themselves.

WiFi Antenna Locations
[
If you want to get the best possible wifi signal in your cabin on the Westerdam, book one near the locations of the hallway antennas that I have listed below. I would bet that they are in similar locations on all the Vista ships as well.

We had originally booked a VE and were upgraded to this VA on Deck 8 Navigation Deck. This was only our 3rd stateroom on a Vista Class ship, the previous 2 staterooms were a Handicapped stateroom in the bend of the ship on the Oosterdam on Deck 5, and on the Westerdam in May 2009 we were upgraded from a VF to an SA Deluxe Verandah Suite Deck 7, both of those staterooms were much much larger! I booked what I booked and it is no ones fault that my own that we ended up in a stateroom this small. I have been spoiled and will never book another stateroom that is this tiny. Do not get me wrong, the stateroom is great, I am just spoiled for the larger staterooms!!

There is only one sink in the bathroom and no jetted tub. The tub is quite deep, so well suited for someone of my size 165 lbs or larger and would be perfect for anyone wishing a long hot soak. There is storage space under the sink as well as a large medicine cabinet to the side of the sink. There is a 2-3 inch step to get from the stateroom into the bathroom, which can be hazardous if the ship rolls at the same time you are attempting to step up into it. There is plenty of room to move around in the bathroom.

The stateroom itself; There is room between the foot of the wonderfully comfortable bed and the wall for one person to walk, but not enough to get my rented scooter to the only plug in the room, which was located on the desk. I had to turn my scooter over to housekeeping every night so they could take it and charge and store it every night for me.

There was no selection of pillows for this category stateroom, you got soft only, but could request as many as needed, we ended up with 8 bed pillows total.

There was one small desk which had a lighted double sided make up mirror attached to it, the single 220/110 plug outlet, a refridgerator/cooler minibar in one side which has a vent where your knees go and a teeny tiny cabinet in the left side which has on one shelf the attached hair dryer and a shelf with a couple of glasses. There was a small ottoman, which opened up for us to put our dirty clothes into as well as using as an extra place to sit as we ate or did any work at the desk. It was impossible to use the provided chair in the stateroom due to the stateroom being so tiny, you had the table (which is adjustable (see photos above) pushed into it so one person could sit on the 2 seat sofa, which converts to a sofa bed for 1 person.

This stateroom is located directly under the spot where the HAL Cats set up to play on the Lido Deck Aft Pool, BUT was not a problem for us. While we could hear them moving deck chairs and hear the music, it was not loud enough to be disturbing nor was it often heard. I swear, we were almost lulled to sleep by the band a couple of nights, it was that soft.

The verandah was small but nice and provided great views and was quite protected from strong winds by the stateroom deviders. We got lots of sun and shade on this verandah.

Our stateroom stewards were absolutely fantastic! Lu and Jo could not do enough for us and made sure we were happy at all times. You ask for anything and they made sure it was done almost immediately! We asked to have the mini bar emptied at st Maartens and 10 minutes later a Bar person was ther empting the fridge so I could place my newly purchased 10 kilo Gould Cheese round in it:)

Would I book this stateroom category again? NO, but only because of the size for 2 people and lack of space to get my scooter into it and because I want a jetted tub!!! Photos February 2010
