On Eurodam, Nieuw Amsterdam, Noordam, Westerdam, Oosterdam, Prinsendam, Zuiderdam: Every single Stateroom has a cooler (HAL does not like to use the word refrigerator as they don't get as cool as some medicines that require "refrigeration" need... but they will get beverages cold...)
[
On the rest of the HAL fleet (and note the above says NIEUW AMSTERDAM... NOT Amsterdam ) If it has a verandah, it has a cooler!

We were on the Veendam to Antarctica and got an upsell to a Verandah Room, so here are my photos of Verandah Deck (9) Room 138. It was a perfect location (Port Side) near the laundry, but far enough to not hear anything. Near the stairs/elevators (Forward) but again, no noise. Quiet cabin overall. Would not hesitate in booking it again. Photos 2011

These photos were taken back in September and October, 2006. Two were taken when we was on our verandah and the others are when we first went on board and you can see the
sitting area of the cabin. I think the Veendam has had a complete remodel since then.  We loved the position of the cabin, it was right in the middle of the ship. Photos September-October 2006.

Veranda Stateroom 212 we were on the port side, back of the ship.

Its kind of hard to tell but the tub is much shorter than a normal bath tub. You can sit in it but its cramped. We had trouble with the water. We thought the knob on the left was for hot, and the one on the right was for cold. But we could only get hot water to come out. We came to find out that the knob on the left controls the amount of water and the one on the right controls the temperature. When we learned this, everything was fine.

On the first day, my wife informed me she was going to take a Jacuzzi, so I sat down to read and off she went. A little bit later I heard the Jacuzzi come on, and then I heard her cry for help. When I looked up towards the bathroom, I could see water flying out of the door into the hall. I swear to God, it was like something out of “I Love Lucy”! I ran in and shut down the Jacuzzi for my wife. It seems she did not have enough water over the jets, and they sprayed everything down pretty good. I laughed till I cried.

We were a little disappointed with the furniture on the balcony. It was not up to the standard of the room. Notice the fraying on the chair, the cushions were a bit stained, and kind of ugly. The rail was nicely shellacked and I like the teakwood floor, though.

A semi funny story… we really didn’t want the robes hanging out in view so we moved them to the closet. After we left the room and came back, the stewards had put two new robes back on the hooks and left the robes we had in the closet. So we left them out for the rest of the trip.

The stateroom was lovely and seemed a little bigger than our previous two cruises on RCL and Celebrity.  A nice size leather sofa. The bouquet was a gift for the wife. Photos July 2010.

(One of the new Verandah staterooms on the stern.) Just as we arrived at our door the announcement was made that the cabins were ready. We have had Deluxe Verandah Suites in the past so this cabin did seem small to us but it was very comfortable and we love wake-facing balconies - that's why we chose this cabin for this cruise.

I was worried about the air conditioning after reading all the negative reports here. We even bought a small fan to take with us but then decided to leave it at home and make the best of whatever we found. The temp in our cabin ranged from a cool 68 to a slightly warm 73 when the sun was at its highest in Bermuda. We closed our curtains during the heat of the afternoon. We were comfortable the whole time. There was a slight rattle noted while falling asleep one or two nights but it really didn't bother us.

Wayan, our room steward, was outstanding - anticipating our needs and always greeting us by name when we passed him in the hall. Photos August 2010.

These pictures are from the Veendam, room A232, port corner aft verandah suite on deck 9.  We had no trouble with A/C or water, in fact, the only complaint I eventually found was the copious amount of dust in the light fixture above the sink in the bathroom.  There were truly some frightening "wooly-boogers" nesting up there!  The verandah had more than twice the amount of space as the interior aft verandah suites did, and we were able to see all along the port side as well as far to starboard as any other verandah can.  I'd choose this, or the starboard aft verandah, suite again in a heartbeat.  We didn't notice any odd sounds or vibration (DW is rather sensitive to this).  It was a terrific home for our South America and Antarctic adventure!
